Suburban Meetup: Pod People
Details

A classic in many senses; one of the first released on home video by Rhino, which makes it the first one that many newer MSTies ever watched! See! Wildlife poaching as you've never seen before! Hear! An indecipherable song ostensibly about cars, maybe? Taste! Smucker's Brand Raspberry Preserves! They taste like real fruit!
Originally conceived as a generic alien movie, then re-worked by its producers into an unauthorized sequel of sorts to a little-known film called "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," Pod People was released under several titles, including "Trumpy Tales" and "Extra-Terrestrial Visitors," but none more memorable than the Film Ventures release, "Pod People." Being a Film Ventures release, of course, PP features an opening and closing credits sequence with footage taken from an entirely different movie! Not for nothing, that movie, "The Galaxy Invader," was released a few months ago as a VOD from Rifftrax ( http://www.rifftrax.com/ondemand/galaxy-inv... (http://www.rifftrax.com/ondemand/galaxy-invader))!
The Elgin Centre didn't really work as a spot, but we met a couple of new faces and had a good time! Still, the increasingly popular Elgin Public House has proven very excited to have us! So starting in April, that will be the home of the suburban meets. We'll be starting the movie at 2 PM, but someone from the group (likely me) will be in the bar downstairs at around noon or 12:30. So come to the bar, have lunch with some of your fellow MSTies, then head on up to the private room to watch the movie!
I charge $5 per person, or $7 if there are fewer than 10 RSVPs by the morning of the meetup. I hope to see more new faces, especially you suburbanites who have difficulty getting to Chicago!
