Another great Xamarin Evolve conference was in the last week of April, where there were a lot of exciting announcements, and Microsoft Build was just a few weeks before that.

Please join us for a series of short presentations, summarizing the major announcements and events of Evolve 2016 and Build 2016.

Evolve 2016 in Orlando FL, was another huge success, with over 1500 attendees from all over the world. There were several exciting announcements, most notably: The merger of HockyApp and Insights; The evolution of Sketches into Workbooks; Remote real time connection to TestCloud devices; Official release of Test Recorder; An iOS emulator for Visual Studio; Remote USB between Visual Studio and your build Mac; and in Xamarin.Forms, support for Custom Layouts, Embedding native controls directly into Forms Layouts, Improved support for Themes; a new DataPage for quick visualization of data; and a XAML previewer; and of course the big news – the entire SDK, including Forms, is now Open Source!

During the keynote, Nat Friedman announced that since Microsoft’s acquisition, the number of distinct downloads of Xamarin had trebled! Certainly, from talking to a lot of people at the conference, it would appear that many Blue Chip companies that were hesitant about switching to Xamarin are already embracing it for their mobile strategies. All in all, we can expect huge growth in Xamarin related opportunities in the next 12-18 months!

So, even if you weren’t able make to either of these conferences, you can still get a summary of the most important and exciting announcements by attending. Hope to see you there!!

As usual, refreshments will be provided.

Xamarin is a mono framework for iOS and Android that includes C# wrappers for native API bindings. This allows developers to develop native iOS and Android apps in C# using the mono (.Net) framework. Xamarin currently supports all features of .Net 4.5.1, and all API's in iOS9 and Android API level 23.

Xamarin comes with its own IDE, Xamarin Studio, which supports cross platform development and common code for Android and IOS apps from a single code base. It also features a plugin for Visual Studio, which allows Visual Studio to be used as the IDE. This supports cross platform development for Android, iOS, OSX, Windows UWP, Windows 8.1, & Windows Phone, and provides full support for PCLs and Shared Libraries.

Xamarin was recently acquired by Microsoft, and community versions of Xamarin, Xamarin Studio, and the Xamarin plugin for Visual Studio are now available and the SDKs have been made open source.
