Let's Hike 12 Miles at Bullfrog Lake - All of the trails

  • Jun 15, 2014 · 8:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Sunday, June 15th.  We will meet up at 8:15 and hit the trail right at 8:30 AM. Not a beginner’s hike but not a terribly rugged hike either.  We will hike a small piece of just about every trail in the Palos system. We will start with Blue North, then Green, then part of Orange, Blue South, then Green then part of Yellow and then back to Bullfrog Lake parking lot.

Wear comfortable clothes. Bring water and a snack for the trail.   Boots with good chunky tread or running shoes will probably be fine.   Bug spray and some sunscreen might be in order.

We will meet at the last parking lot immediately in front of Bullfrog Lake. Basically, enter the road to Bullfrog lake off of Wolf Road and drive to the last parking lot, a big circle, and park there.

We will first hike up to Blue and start our trek.

If this is all too much to remember don’t worry.  The trail itself can be a little confusing.  I’ll have maps for everyone.

Bullfrog Lake Forest Preserve

9550 S Wolf Rd,

Willow Springs, IL

Directions: From I-55 (near I-294) take exit 279 - South La Grange Rd.  WATCH YOUR SPEED!. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN THIS SECTION OF LA GRANGE ROAD WITHOUT SEEING MEMBERS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY! Take the Archer Ave. South (Highway 171) exit off of La Grange.  Continue South on Archer as it crosses through Willow Springs.  Take the left onto 95th street and at the top of the hill take a right onto Wolf road.  Take the Bullfrog Lake entrance to the right off of Wolf road.  Drive to the last parking lot, the big circle, at the bottom of the hill and park there

I hope you can make the hike; it should be a nice hike.

Nice hike Lyle thanks. I wanted to stay in my target zone today and didn't want to do a cardio workout keeping up with you for 12 miles . I've got an ice skating meetup tomorrow. Anybody interested?...sign on.

Sorry - I did some intense yard work yesterday and can barely move today. See you next time.

When I wrote that note, I did not realize that the Preserves fine you if the group is too large. Thank you for the note. Have a great hike and I will see you next time!

I understand that not everyone shows up....? Is it a safe bet to come and see? Otherwise, I would be interested in a second group. Is this possible?

Please don't just show up. Not trying to be a pain but the preserve have been enforcing their limits of late. When I say it will be a fine day to hike I do not want it to be me who gets the fine.

Kris Maybe you and I and anyone else on the wait list could meet in the morning at the starting point and go on our own hike... I think the forest is big enough for all of us to enjoy!

Can we split this into 2 groups with 2 hike leaders so we can all go or is that pushing it? Just a thought, I don't know how this works, but I know the Forest Preserves do limit numbers in a group.

    1 · June 13, 2014

KrisT, The forest preserves only allow a certain number of people on any given hike. This is to protect the trails and to allow space for others to share the trails. You are welcome to host a similar hike though the preserves (and I) would request that you take an alternate route.

Thanks! I noticed there are a couple hike leaders on this hike so that's why I asked, in case someone wanted to split the group and take an alternate route. Not sure I am qualified yet to lead a hike but I hope to be someday.

And I just bought a house warming gift in India. I'll bring it to a hike in the future.

Folks, it looks like we will have a full hike. I see a number of attendees that have RSVP'd that are chronic no-shows. Since most of my hikes are unlimited in size I don't normally care. This hike does have a limit though and a number of folks on the wait list. I would really ask that if you are on the attendee list but have no intention of joining us, or even if you are very questionable, that you update your RSVP now to free up a spot for someone on the wait list. Thanks....Lyle

Linda, Apologize for not getting back sooner (and for the rude response you received from someone else). I am traveling in India and was not able to respond right away. As normal, I will send out an email to the group on directions later this week with my phone number as well. I do wish you would reconsider and possibly attend the hike as my special guest. Look for an email within the next 8 hours or so......Lyle

Please let me know the exact location where people are meeting. This is right by my house. Or a phone number to contact someone.
