We are a diverse group of Americans and Israelis who practice their Hebrew language skills and experience Israeli culture together. Our members have a wide range of Hebrew proficiency levels, from beginners, through intermediate speakers to advanced, native, and professional users of Hebrew.
Meetings are usually on Sunday afternoon or evening, attract 10 to 44 members and guests, with an average of 20 per meeting. Thanks to our wonderful sponsors we do not charge membership or per meeting.
The group was founded by Margalit in 2006, as the second Hebrew Meetup worldwide after New York. We have had more than 60 extremely diverse meetings, including discussions in coffee houses, pubs, restaurants, and private homes, as well as a wide range of sports, arts, and outdoor activities. We have 225 members and keep growing.
The Chicago Hebrew Meetup is a closed group, so for updates on activities you need to sign up. This gives you real privacy as a member. We do welcome new members! Whether you are a beginner, a native speaker, or anything in between, please send a request to join detailing your Hebrew background as well as your motivation to join. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
