Here are some useful links, and these sites are run by friends of mine. The most helpful, and widest audience is the Chicago Astronomer forum. Joe had been running it since 2004, and has a steady following, both among hardcore astronomers, and casual fans of astronomy and the night sky.

Since March 2010, I've been keeping a blog that was supposed to document my public astronomy sessions. Just about any topic or observation is fair game, but in the last year writing (and picture editing) started to feel like work. I haven't written much lately.

David Fuller produces weekly videos detailing things that can be found in the sky. Entertaining and helpful.

Curt Renz creates charts concerning the planets, Moon, and other interesting astronomical events.

And finally, this may not be much help to Illinois residents in the far suburbs, but I'm a member of Calumet Astronomical Society. Most of our membership is from Northwest Indiana, but we do have members from Chicago and the south suburbs.
