A set of three walks exploring the picturesque Brecon Beacons of South Wales including Pen Y Fan the highest point in South Wales over the late May Bank Holiday Weekend.
Walk Descriptions
The Brecon Beacons is a picturesque national park and comprises a mixture of open farmland, moors and forest.
Day 1: Vale of Ewyas, Saturday, May 25, 2013
Walk length 9 miles/14.5km approx. Circular.
This route starts from the ruined Augustinian Llanthony Priory in the Vale of Ewyas. The priory is grade 1 listed. The walk takes in the fields, farms and woods around the Vale of Ewyas with magnificent views along the ridges.
Day 2: Balmawr, Sunday, May 26, 2013
Walk length 9 miles/14.5km approx. Circular.
Another walk from Llanthony Priory this time following a route to the ridges and peak of Bal Mawr and Charel Y Fan tracking back along the Vale of Ewyas to Llanthony Priory.
Day 3: Pen Y Fan, Monday, May 27, 2013
Walk length 8.5miles/13.6km approx. Circular
This walk is a hike up the tallest peak in South Wales and south of Snowdonia in Britain Pen Y Fan (2,907ft/886m), also passing the summit of Corn Du. Both summits were formerly referred to as Cadair Arthur or Arthur's Seat. The views from the peaks and ridges are fantastic.

Camping is available in the field. Not many facilities here other than a tap for drinking water, and toilets. Tents only - or small (VW type) camper vans.
Directions
At the roundabout just outside Abergavenny (junction of A40, A4042, A465) do not go into the town centre, but take the A465 towards Hereford. After 5 miles travelling northwards turn off to the left at Llanvihangel Crucorney, following the Heritage signs to the Priory. It is exactly 6 miles from the main road and takes 15 minutes (keep going!)

Lunch & Finish:
Please bring a packed lunch and water for each walk. Each walk should finish at about 4.30pm and include a 30 min snack lunch stop & pub at the end, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).
Meeting & Transport:
No public transport for these walks, transport by car and car sharing.

Day 1 & 2 (25th & 26th May)
Meet outside the Llanthony Priory Hotel at 09.45am for the walk to start at 10am, (both are circular walks).
Day 3 (27th May)
Meet outside Llanthony Priory Hotel at 0845am (checked out of hotel or campsite) for one hour drive to Pen Y Fan (directions and map will be provided). After Pen Y Fan we will return home.
Cost for the three days is £20 (guided walks and admin costs).
Transport, accomodation, food must be arranged on an individual basis.
