The landscape of this northern area of the Chilterns is more treeless than the southern areas, but the views from this walk are simply brilliant. Its a popular walk that takes in Pitstone Hill and the summit of Ivinghoe Beacon along the Ridgeway, and one of the highest points in the Chilterns. Anyone of you who came on our Coombe Hill Walk will know what the views from the Chiltern Hills can be like!

View towards Ivinghoe Beacon along the walk.

The walk takes in panoramic views of the surrounding villages from along the ridge and Ivinghoe Beacon and is about 8 miles. One point of particular interest is the Whipsnade White Lion made in 1933 on the slope just below the Whipsnade wildlife park.

Lookout for deer on the way back, the current banner picture for this meetup group of the deer was taken on this walk!

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/c/1/2/event_86992242.jpegWe are going to stop off for a drink at the 'Valiant Trooper' pub pictured right and very near the end of the walk for about 4pm in the picturesque little village of Aldbury. It is only a mile walk to Tring station at the end of the walk, however if you want to get back to the station and miss the pub, one of the organizers will guide you back.

Food and Drink: Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk, we will make a break at the top of Ivinghoe.

Transport and meeting:

Note -: We are meeting a little earlier than normal at 10.30am so as to fit in with the train times.

By car: We are meeting at Tring station for 10.30am, the car park is not free I'm afraid, about £3.50 on a Sunday. I would suggest using the car park as other parking around the station is limited.

By train: The train from London Euston at 9.53am gets to Tring for 10.28am. Please see London Midland ( http://www.londonmidland.com/ ) for more information on this.

Walking Safety: Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk. Before going on any of these walks you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety. You must wear appropriate clothing such as proper walking boots, warm and wet weather clothing and carry sufficient food and water.
