12th Annual Hike for Hope

Sunday, October 7th, the 12th annual Hike for Hope. The hike will begin at 1:00PM at Steamboat Forest Road north of Thorpe Tower. Click on the address to see map. This hike dates back to the fall of 2011, the week of the 911 terrorist attack. There was a large crew from the cities and locally that worked on the trail the last few days of that week and the weekend. Florence Hedeen scheduled a hike for Sunday to give people a chance to contemplate the events and weigh the future. Chapter members and friends have hike the first Sunday of October every year since. The hike will be to Spur 1, on the trail southeast of the starting point.

Georgious day to be on the NCT in the Paul Bunyan State Forest remembering why we find nurture in nature! The Old Growth trees help one to really appreciate what's to come from the new plantings of pines - if they are given the time and growing conditions to reach their potential. Same can be said of people - young and old!

An obvious correction is the first year of the Hike for Hope, 2001. Thoughts of the attack on the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and the downed flight in PA were heavy on our hearts and minds, but the forest gave me a feeling of hope. I look forward to sharing the beautiful hiking trail that has emerged in that forest with others who find hope and peace in nature!
