Who are we? Anyone who wants to understand how to better and more effectively integrate their Christian beliefs and work life.
What will we do? Do you have questions about this topic? Do you wonder how to bring Jesus into your day without alienating others? Do you sense an "us against them" mentality amongst Christians and non-Christians? How do we combat that? How do we treat each person with dignity, respect, integrity and love and yet not go along with unethical or "bottom-line-only" behavior? Is work our calling? What is calling? Are we working for God no matter what we do? What about trying to be ethical in an unethical environment? What risks do we have to take to keep our integrity? This group is intended for people who want to explore these questions in a safe place. **You do NOT have to be Christian to join the group.** Perhaps you want to see what it's all about. How can God influence work? Maybe you've had a run-in with Christians that was unpleasant and you want to share that. We have lots to learn. This is a group for people passionately seeking how to bridge gaps. We are open-minded and willing to listen. We are not interested in bashing each other or tearing anything down. We are interested in healthy, respectful discussion and even debate. We (Christians) have obviously not always succeeded in getting the real message of Jesus across. To quote Gandhi, "If all Christians acted like Christ, the whole world would be Christian". So, let's talk!! :) Time to break the walls down...
How will we do it? To begin with, we will meet and go through Larry Julian's books, "God Is My CEO" and "God Is My Coach". It's okay if you don't have the book on the first visit. It's fairly easy to get from Amazon or Barnes. There is a study guide with the book and we can simply work with whatever question we want to at any time - so this is an open group and you can join at any time and not be "behind". People will go at their own place and others will contribute ideas of books to read or lines of thought to follow or whatever. This group is intended to be thought provoking. If you're really brave (and I hope you are, or will become so) then we can be accountability for each other, too! :) There will be a little structure - say some time for mingling and then some time of sharing from wherever we are in a book and then some time to get into groups with people we want to get to know more and talk to. So, it can be networking a bit, too.
Where and When will we do this? That will vary. I am a morning person, so there will be occasional morning meetings. However, I know not everyone is. So, I'll make some lunchtime and Saturday meetings, too. I'm actually very open to ideas, so suggest away!
This is primarily a group focused on positive change and growth. This is NOT a singles group. If you meet someone special as a by-product - WHOO HOO! :) However, that is not the focus. Book studies, discussions, challenges and other activities that promote this will be the main intention in the meetings. Looking for SERIOUS discussions here (serious in the sense of focused and deep...laughter is always welcome! :)). However, we will have other types of social-only type meetings from time to time to promote fun and bonding - which we all need. As mentioned above, if you have other ideas for meeting places, dates and times, feel free to let me know.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you passionate people! Let me know if you have any questions!
