May 2014 - Clojure Meetup

This month, we'll hear from Matt Adereth about 3D printing and laser cutting with Clojure. He'll cover the basics of the existing Clojure libraries (Analemma & scad-clj) and share lessons learned using them to design an open-source ergonomic keyboard.

A naive follow-up to Evie's question. Is it possible to 3-d print a 2-sided umbrella mushroom (with the umbrella-like structure on both sides.). Won't the 3-d printed rings of the upper umbrella fall off? Does the 3-d printer do some kind of backtracking to print the upper umbrella?

Hi Prasa, I'm not sure I can visualize your 2-sided umbrella mushroom, but in general, anything with overhangs will need to have supports. Support are different for different kind of printers. For MakerBot, and any FDM printers, they need to be printed along side the actual print, (often in a dissolvable material so they can be easily removed later). For SLS printers, a bed of powder is laid down, and each point is sintered with a laser. It's self supporting because the layers of powder will be there regardless of wether sintering occurs or not. Great presentation! Which bar is it that folks are going to afterwards? We're outside but can't find the place.

Wow, 3D printing is such a great topic. I am going to be far away and -maybe- will make it on time. Is it ok to keep myself on the list or should I make way for others?
