6:30pm – 8:30pm: Docker, Kubernetes, CoreOS and Big Data in Apache CloudStack by Sebastien Goasguen
With Docker redefining application packaging, operations and portability, supporting Docker in CloudStack has become a prime topic. In addition, Big data has become a key workload on public and private clouds. In this talk we will review the cloud computing landscape, discuss the current state of CloudStack and discuss several ways to support Docker in CloudStack. We will illustrate our points with the new CoreOS linux distribution which makes Docker a first class citizen to run applications in the Cloud. We will introduce Kubernetes, a Docker orchestrator framework and show how one can use Kubernetes as a workload in a CloudStack cloud. We will finish with a discussion on big data and the various ways to run big data workloads in CloudStack as well as how it relates to Docker.
About Sebastien Goasguen
Sebastien Goasguen built his first compute cluster in the late 90's when they were still called Beowulf clusters while working on his PhD; he has been working on making computing a utility since then. He has done research, as an associate professor, in grid computing and high performance computing and with the advent of virtualization moved to cloud computing in the mid 2000s. He is currently a Senior Open Source Solutions Architect at Citrix, where he works primarily on the Apache CloudStack project, helping develop the CloudStack ecosystem. Sebastien is a project management committee member (PMC) of CloudStack and Apache libcloud and a member of the Apache Software Foundation, he focuses on the cloud ecosystem and has contributed to many open source projects like Knife-cloudstack, Eutester, Ansible and most recently Kubernetes. He is the author of the O'Reilly, 60 Recipes for Apache CloudStack and is currently writing the O'Reilly Docker Cookbook.
