We’re excited to announce HackBushwick, a hackathon dedicated to our corner of Brooklyn! Developers, designers, and hackers of all stripes are invited to join us for a full day of creative collaboration on December 6, 2014. The hackathon will take place at Livestream Public, a brand-new, fully-equipped venue committed to engaging the local tech community.

HackBushwick brings together creative individuals in a mad sprint to bring an idea to life in 6 hours. Teams will be formed at the time of the event after brief introductions. Projects will have a Bushwick theme and could take the form of websites, apps, bots, wearables, books, visualizations, and much more. At the end of the hackathon, each team will pitch its project to our judges (livestreamed!). The winning teams will take home a series of excellent prizes (below). More info at http://hackbushwick.com .

Registration has now closed.

Everybody with an interest in building a tech-related project is welcome. (Although the event is organized by a drinking group, this isn't [necessarily] a drinking event.) Don’t live in Bushwick? Don’t worry! Come anyway and enjoy our neck of the woods.

Schedule
11am: Welcome
11:15: Team formation begins
12pm: Hacking begins
6pm: Hacking ends + pitches begin
6:45pm: Prizes awarded
7pm: Afterparty with happy hour specials at Arrogant Swine (a block away)

Prizes

—Winner: $250 cash to split, $100 Miles bar tab to split, access to General Assembly's Front Row
—Runner-up: $100 cash to split, access to General Assembly's Front Row
—Crowd favorite: access to General Assembly's Front Row

Each project must adhere to the theme of "Bushwick" (open to interpretation!) and must be tech-powered. Your projects will be judged according to a rubric of idea, execution, theme, and team size. The judges are your co-organizers: Nate Graves (developer at Meetup), Dan McGrath (cofounder of Flek), Robin Davis (Emerging Technologies Librarian at CUNY).

What to bring
—Your own laptop and charger
—Other tech equipment you want to work with
—Ideas for projects

Livestream Public will provide wifi, outlets, and places to work (thanks, Livestream!).

Food: We will provide pizza, including veg*-friendly pies (thanks, Norbert's!), and drinks (thanks, Caleb's Kola!). Consider bringing snacks to tide you over between lunch & the afterparty. Fitzcarraldo's, steps away, will also be open for you to purchase food.

Be a team leader! Take 5 minutes before the event to list out some inventive ideas for projects with the theme of "Bushwick." Projects could take the form of websites, apps, bots, wearables, books, visualizations, and much more.
Tomorrow, we'll have time for people with ideas to mingle with willing teammates. We will also have a number of challenges and a list of data sources to get your brains going.

Code of Conduct
We're dedicated to making this hackathon a welcoming place for everybody. Though we're cultivating a fun sense of competition, we want everyone to have fun, meet other people, learn stuff, and leave happy. Our registered attendees are diverse in background and age, including some high schoolers (awesome!). To encourage a healthy working environment, we've adopted this Code of Conduct:

—All communication should be appropriate for an audience that includes people of many different backgrounds and ages.
—Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for this event. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.
—Attendees violating these rules may be asked to leave the event at the sole discretion of the event organizers.

Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.

(This CoC is adapted from !!Con (http://bangbangcon.com/conduct.html)'s.) If you have concerns or are uncomfortable at any time during the hackathon, grab one of the co-organizers and let us know what's up, and we'll do our best to help out.

HackBushwick is organized by Daniel McGrath, Nate Graves, and Robin Camille Davis on behalf of Code, Drink, Talk: Bushwick, where tech-minded people meet over drinks in a different Bushwick bar each month.

Many thanks to our sponsors!
