Details
Do you live in Orlando?
Do you want to help make the city better?
Do you know how to do things?
Your City Needs You!
Join us June 6th, from 9am to 6pm at CANVS for a hackathon that aims to make Orlando more awesome! All areas of expertise are encouraged- we need everyone for this one!
Code for Orlando is a group of civic minded individuals who are making it their goal to not only help Orlando become an official Open Data city, but to use open data to help fuel innovative applications by citizens, companies, and government alike- to make Orlando one of the best cities to live in. If you had fun at our hackathon and believe in the cause, please come join us at one of our monthly meet ups where we try to make all of this a reality!
What to expect:
Canvs is a brilliant coworking space– filled with many conference rooms, tables, outlets and spaces for collaboration. Most importantly: FREE wifi and ethernet access. Just bring whatever tools you need to work and set up camp! While we can find tasks for people without laptops in order to get the most out of the event we suggest you bring a computer.

Breakfast & Coffee as we welcome guests! Get to know your fellow civic hackers and get energized for our day ahead.

Code for Orlando will educate the group on the problem at hand, and what our mission will be. They will introduce our official challenges for the hackathon. the national challenges created by >Hackforchange.org (http://hackforchange.org/challenges/), and familiarize the group with the resources available to us to accomplish our goals.
9:30 am
We will break into groups based on which project we would like to be involved with, and locate to a designated work area and set up.

Let the Hackathon begin! Now that we are organized we can get right to it! Time to make some awesome apps!
12:00 pm
Lunch will be generously supplied by Microsoft, where we will partake in delicious pizza and get to know our fellow civic hackers even more. Take as long or as little as you wish for lunch. Some of us will no doubt need to be peeled away from our work for sustenance!
4:00 pm
Begin to decide what group would like to present their accomplishments and put the final touches on anything needed to present.
5:00 pm
We will begin a presentation of everything we have created! We will get to see what each group has built and share our experiences. The event will close at 6pm, but the efforts of civic hackers will never die!
After Party:
If there is interest, we can socialize on or around Church Street at some awesome local bars and pubs!

• Create a web app that allows a city employee to input road closure data in both the format used by the city, and an open data format.
• Crowdsource data from the City of Orlando’s website and try to identify un answered inquires and optimize.
