App In A Day - How To...

I've decided to take a step back, and do a simple "How To" session.   So rather than vote for an app to develop as a group this time around, I am going to walk the group through the process that I've been using to build our official "Code Junkies" app.

At the end of the session, we should all have a better understanding as to how we can utilize web services, as well as how to submit our app to all of the various App Stores.

The goal here will be to provide the group with a foundation with which to build any future apps.

Fair warning, this will be a "code-heavy" session.  With a primary focus on HTML5, Javascript (AngularJS), Bootstrap, GitHub, Parse.com, and Meetup.com's API.

Anyone interested in seeing our GitHub Repo's please send me your GitHub User IDs.

Jason started out by saying at a recent meet up he had attended the group was asked how many people in the room were developers and only 2-3 people raised their hand then the group was asked how many people need developers for their startup and virtually everyone raised their hand. This ended up being a wake up call and Jason responded by looking for a tool that with a little effort anyone can devlop an MVP app. The tool he found was Appery. Jason, you can not be thanked enough for your effort!

I have attended several full day workshops in the past year on app development using various tools. This is the first time that I saw a tool set that I actually thought had a learning curve that was doable by anyone willing to put in a reasonable effort.

Great job Jason! Needing a developer need not be a barrier anymore to creating your MVP.

I can't wait to get started.

    Mark

I didn't know that JS and HTML were being used like this. It was interesting and teksystems was very nice to sponsor and provide pizza and water.

Sounds awesome. Took a look back at my coursework and we ran through the creation of a very basic app using node and angular. For those of us new to these tools, the tutorial is pretty good:
    http://scotch.io/tutorials/javascript/creating-a-single-page-todo-app-with-node-and-angular
(there are also two other modules in the tutorial series with additional details)

You've been added. I'll be sharing that code repo once it's ready. But feel free to take a look at the Bartering App that we started in the last meetup.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but do we need to bring our macs or can we use our pcs?

I still have a lot of love for my Timex Sinclair with my cassette tape player for memory storage. The real first PC!
