Hack Night

Hack Night

Details

Semi-monthly hack night at AL.com (Alabama Media Group). Splitting off into groups and doing some civic hacking.

Projects going on:

Open Disclosure: Recently awarded a Sunlight Foundation Open-Gov grant. This app aims to condense and make sense of Campaign Finance Contribution data at the state level.

Pothole App: A collaborative with Redemptive Cycles aimed at easing the process of reporting potholes. Mobile-first, biker-first.

Open Data: finishing up the last drafts of an Open Data policy to be passed on for deliberation in Birmingham. Learn about open data, and how Birmingham could benefit from it.

User Testing: identifying government interfaces in Birmingham/Jeffco and how they could be improved.

Separate projects are welcome, brainstorming is also welcome. The goal of hack nights is to promote and produce civic-tech in Birmingham, where brigade meetings are focused on general issue-discussion.
Snack foods and drinks provided. Don't code? Don't fret! We'll have projects going on that all people can participate in. If possible, BYOL (Bring your own laptop). If not, spectating is welcome.
