Let's discuss a Midcoast Makerspace!

Agenda DOC-Click Here

I know I've met a lot of Midcoast folks down at the Portland hack-night and we've been having some very promising discussions with the Harpswell Coastal Academy and the Brunswick Library about putting together a Makerspace up here in the Midcoast. Add in the new programs opening up at SMCC-Midcoast campus and it looks like things might finally be happening in the Topsham-Brunswick-Bath-Harpswell area!

We've narrowed down a time to meet on November 1st and we should be able to use the School House Cafe even if they havent opened it up to the public yet.  However, I'll make sure to check on whether or not they have wifi...

I've attached an agenda doc though don't worry about things turning into another endless meeting.  Bring along your tools, Arduinos, Quadrotors, Submarines, Smartwatches, Google Glasses etc... and we'll make sure to have fun hacking right away!

All that said, the more brainstorms, comments and questions people add to the attached agenda it means all the more time we can have to get started on hacking!

Hello All, So I got final confirmation from John Aneiri that we can use the SchoolHouse Cafe and that it has WiFi though I have to call the owner for final arrangements.
The School House Cafe is i the old Cafe Mojo building but Drew Donley pointed out that Google Maps seemed to have the wrong address for Cafe Mojo so I dragged the arrow to the closest address-,+ME&daddr=43.8233261,-69.9638381+to:ME-123+N%2FHarpswell+Neck+Rd&hl=en&sll=43.823358,-69.963695&sspn=0.002078,0.003632&geocode=FSATngIdbGPU-ymZiQvaSYetTDHftL3kXrd6rw%3BFd6wnAIdwm_U-ynjKURJ6YGtTDHxBsjQBhqRYw%3BFSyxnAIdE3DU-w&t=h&mra=dme&mrsp=2&sz=18&via=1&z=18

But basically its at the intersection of RT.123 and Mountain RD and across the Street from the Vegetable Corner.
See you all there and I'll be sure to bring my toys with me!

Update 10/28/13- This is shaping up to be a damn good team of Hackers! I got word from Scott Ellis of Topsham-based Pansenti Llc that the will be joining us as well! One minor issue came to mind and that is that the School House Cafe might not have WiFi set up yet. Considering the 3G dead zone in that area, it wouldn't make much sense to have a hack night without internet! I'll find out by Wednesday the latest if we should move to the school or another location. This is going to be awesome!

Drew Donley made a good point that Thursday the 31st is Halloween... Wednesday is Portland Hack Night so I'm shooting for Friday Nov. 1st to give us enough time.

I pushed the date back a week so as not to conflict with the Portland Web Devs meet. If the new date causes any conflicts let me know in the next few days. Otherwise I'll start promoting on other networks at the end of this week.

Any chance the date can change? Its the same night as the Portland web developers monthly meeting.

Yeah the date is totally up for grabs. I just put it up there because it won't be searchable otherwise. When would work for you?

The following week is completely open for me.

Hopefully the School House Cafe will have opened by then. If not then perhaps we can have it at the Harpswell Coastal Academy or in Brunswick.

Sounds fantastic. We're founding a new Digital and Computational Studies Initiative at Bowdoin and we may possibly have some a greater interest from students and faculty in participating and supporting this space.
