Learn and code in Silver Spring

  • Mar 23, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • Silver Spring Civic Building

Join us at the Silver Spring Civic Building as we learn, code and share our projects. Our current agenda can be found at

The Silver Spring Civic Building is located near the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. Nearby parking garages provide plenty of free parking. Depending on the week, we may be located in different rooms inside the Civic Building. If you do not see us, someone is usually at the front desk who can help.

Sorry guys, my husband pulled a muscle this morning and can't get around, so I can't leave him alone with my littlest. Hopefully catch you guys next time around when he's mobile again!

I'm bringing 3 teens. 2 are interested in modding their Tumblrs (html) and one is working on Java.

Hoping I can install Minecraft and the Cat Dimensions mod on my laptop before tomorrow's meetup. However, I don't know what I'm doing. So can anyone just give me a brief bird's eye view of how these work together (not the details of how to do it ... I've been reading forums & wiki). Just need to understand the concept of what to install first, second, third (Minecraft, Mod, Mod Installer, Forge). Thinking if I understand how the puzzle pieces work together, I may be able to figure it out.

Hi Kimberly, I don't know anything about Cat Dimensions, but generally you would install Minecraft first, then Forge, then the mod itself. This assumes that this particular mod works with Forge. If it does, then once Forge is installed, installing the mod might be as easy as placing some files in a particular directory. There's lots of info about various mods out there on the web, and in particular on YouTube, but unfortunately much of it is unreliable or at least unclear, and it's not always easy to distinguish good advice from bad. But if you get Minecraft installed, there'll probably be someone there tomorrow who can help with the mod.

Thanks Joshua ... I'm going to see how far I can get with what you just said & we'll see everyone tomorrow!
