What is functional programming, really?

In this presentation, we look back at the origins of functional programming and try to separate the myth from what actually matters, then we apply the core principles to a simple Java program to see what effect they have on the kind of code we write every day.

Whilst we'll also deal with the false dichotomy of functional versus imperative programming languages, we'll round out the presentation with a look at the same program ported to Haskell and (time permitting) Clojure.
