Apex Coffee & Contacts: Jo Cicci presents "Benefits of Art"

Although she's had the desire to paint since childhood, Jo didn't realize her dream until 2003, when her husband surprised her with easel and paints. From then on, Jo has found her inspiration in the beauty of nature, landscapes, and interesting architecture.

Jo’s work consists mostly of acrylics on canvas, pencil & charcoal on paper. Her paintings have shown at galleries, the NC State Fair Art Competition, art shows at her church and at Cary and Raleigh-area coffee houses.

Her business, Outside the Lines Art Instruction and Sales, provides one-on-one art mentoring for budding artists 5 to 85 at her studio or the student’s home tailored to needs and desires of the student. She also conducts art workshops for students in pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic paint, tempera, and air dry clay at Neighborhood Academy of Music in Clayton. She is available for art birthday parties, homeschool groups and commissions for pet portraits.

Her community service of an art nature has involved creation and delivery of a 6-week after school art program for K-to-Grade 2 disadvantaged and at-risk children at a Magnet school in downtown Raleigh. The program consisted of teaching art skills while encouraging students to explore their creativity. The focus was also on building good character.

Her passion is art and helping budding artist explore their creativity and discover their talents. Today she will talk about some of the benefits of art to children, adults and seniors, and prove to you once and for all that there is no truth in the saying “I can’t even draw a stick figure”.
