When you think about it, exchanging our possessions (clothes, books, etc.) makes sense: Why hold onto something you don’t use, when you could swap it for something you will? Swapping is good for the wallet and the environment too, as it encourages us to consume less and recycle what we have.

A clothing swap is an event wherein participants exchange clothing they own but don’t wear for clothing they will wear. Clothing swaps are considered not only a good way to de-clutter and refill one's wardrobe, but also are considered an act of environmentalism.

In our next MeetUp, we’re going to find out more about this exciting area of Collaborative Consumption.

Our speaker is Kirsten Fredericks who is involved in The Clothing Exchange. They organise regular clothes swaps and she is going to share her experiences running these events, providing insight into this trend.

We’re also going to have a first-hand experience of swapping. To make it more appealing to all of our attendees, we have chosen to hold a “ book swap”. Bring along a book, one that you’ve already read, and swap it for one you haven’t!

Our MeetUp is taking place at the newest co-working space in Sydney: Hub-Sydney. It’s an ideal venue for co-working and for hosting great events: http://hubaustralia.com/contact/sydney/

Notes:

If you’re attending to this MeetUp, you’re required to bring a book value of $20 and exchange it with another book brought by another attendee.

For those interested in experiencing a clothing swap prior to this meetup, The Clothing Exchange are holding their next event on Saturday 22nd June. The details are here: http://www.eventbrite.com.au/event/6116180661/eorg# (http://www.eventbrite.com.au/event/6116180661/eorg)
