Civic Hack Night - Special Kinect for a Cause Presentation

Come around 6:30 or earlier for last call at the bar at Galvanize. We'll start the learning and hacking around 7 PM. Hack nights are open to anyone wanting to work on code for the civic and social good. This night we'll also have a special presentation and workshop described below.

Kinect for a Cause

Almost half a million (473,947) children aged 0 to 14 years visit emergency departments for traumatic brain injury (TBI) every year in the U.S alone (http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/statistics.html). Thousands of these TBI are severe and lead to permanent disability. Simple, fun, and engaging movement applications could help kids recover, but these products aren’t available to patients and families. With your creativity and technical expertise, we could make effective tools available for free and make a huge difference. David Stile (Creative Coder) and Tim Nicklas (Movement Innovation Labs at Children’s Hospital Colorado) will be here to kick off their kinect-based Open Source initiative. They are building basic interactive applications to meet niche needs of patient populations, starting with children with TBI. They will be discussing the following:
