Global Game Jam Prep: Developer's Perspective

Global Game Jam Prep: Developer's Perspective

Details

As a follow-up to the previous excellent talk given by Rafael (thanks Rafael!), we'll have a presentation by 3 developers (Dylan Jones, Benjamin McKissick Jr., and Megan Fox) who have previous experience with Global Game Jam and other jams. We'll cover suggested preparation, recommended team size and format, tips and tricks for actually completing a game in under 48 hours, etc. Each of the speakers will speak for about 15 minutes, then we'll have a Q&A at the end.

After the talk and Q&A, we'll have mingling time. Rafael would say (and I agree) that forming teams beforehand isn't necessary, that there will also be mingling at the event. But from personal experience, it's a little less intimidating if you at least know some people who will also be there, and have some rough ideas of the sorts of people (or at least specializations of people) that you might want to form teams with.

Also, there will be donuts. Nothing helps mingling like a good donut.

The reason for the date is because - Global Game Jam registrations (at the Denver location) close that SATURDAY. As in, the very next day after the presentation. So. If you're curious at all about jamming, but you've never done it before? And you'd like some perspective from the jammers themselves about how awesome it is, how important or not important it is to stay overnight, working remotely, whatever? Come, watch the presentation, and then you've still got that evening to decide if you want to sign up.
