Mansfield Reformatory Shoot - 25 Photographers & 8 Models

One of the truly great places to shoot in Ohio is the deserted, Mansfield reformatory.  I have brought three different groups of photographers and models to the site in the past, but was dissuaded from doing it last year when they increased the price for any photographer to $150.   I recently worked out a deal with the reformatory to bring a group of 25 photographers and five models for a total price per photographer of $80.  That includes your admission, and the cost of the models.  Tourists cannot come into the facility before 11:00 am and normally don't get to the cell blocks before 12:00 noon, so we will have it to ourselves for the first two-plus hours.  Additional, non-photographers, can come with you for $9.00 per person.

For those not familiar with the facility, this prison was scheduled for demolition, when Hollywood found it, gave it a stay of execution, and shot the Shawshank Redemption there.  The cell blocks are as they were on the day the prisoners left, but the rust and peeling paint were caused the the dis-use after the filming.  Making for great images.  Today, there is a foundation dedicated to preservation, and the fees go to the foundation.

I will provide additional information soon, but we need to make sure we have 30 people interested or the per person cost jumps.

Great location. I took some of my best photos on this shoot thanks to the talented models and photographers in my group. And a big thanks to Jim Mitchell for all his efforts organizing, corralling, etc.

Can we go back again tomorrow? Most fun I've had in a long time. Thanks to everyone who put this trip together and extra big thanks to Nicole Carver and Holly Smith for all of their great posing in the nastiness!

Here are some shots I took using only natural window light - if you can get angled indirect window light and expose for the highlights the effect is magical. Add increase clarity in camera raw for an HDR look.

This is a great place to shoot models! :) I was hoping that the group would be able to do a shoot at this venue!
