The 3 Aspects of a Healthy, Thriving Community, and the Role of SociocracyWith Diana Leafe Christian

Diana Leafe Christian, international speaker and workshop leader, and author of

Creating a Life Together: Practical Tools to Grow Ecovillages and Intentional Communities,

and

Finding Community: How to Join an Ecovillage or Intentional Community,

will give a presentation, “The 3 Aspects of a Healthy, Thriving Community, and the Role of Sociocracy,” on Sunday, August 24th for Community Network Gathering Meetup at Lotus Lodge in Candler.

Potluck starts at 6pm and by about 6:30, Diana will start her presentation. Based on decades of research and experience, she will share what she has considers to be the three essential factors for intentional communities or member-led organizations to succeed and thrive.

Diana will introduce "Sociocracy" (also called Dynamic Governance in the US) which means “governance by peers and colleagues.” It is a governance and decision-making process she now recommends for communities instead of consensus decision-making, which she taught for many years. She will touch on the governance structure and four meeting processes of Sociocracy. She also will share the three primary values it’s based on (equivalence, transparency, and feedback loops), it's purpose and  origins in the Netherlands in the 1970s.

As examples, Diana also will describe the intentional communities (where she has consulted in Europe and the US) that have replaced their consensus process with Sociocracy governance, and those which started out with Sociocracy originally.

Now a passionate advocate of Sociocracy, Diana has taught this method of organizational structure and decision making for intentional communities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, France, Sweden, England, and Scotland.

Hi Gaya, Will you send directions? the LotusLodge.com website doesn't show directions to your house that I can find. I'm bringing a friend, Ben Zolno, another experienced communitarian. See you at 6:00 !

You can get directions by either clicking on the words in blue - Lotus Lodge above (will take you to Maps where you can type in your address, etc.), OR by going to LotusLodge.com - at bottom. Glad to have another communitarian! So looking forward to your presentation!

Wish I could join you this month, but am getting ready for a long trip, so need tomorrow for that purpose. I'll put it on my calendar for September, and will check here for some highlights of what you discussed in this next meetup.

I have come to the awareness that the time for me to be in community is here. Living alone does not serve my optimum lifestyle. Now...I only need the imagination and creativity to make this happen with the help of others who are like minded. Thank you Gaya for helping to keep this conversation alive.

Yes, I enjoy life much more with others of like mind around. And we all have plenty of autonomy and privacy.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
