The Foundation of Learning: Optimisation Methods by Stefan

On 26.02., Dr. Stefan Kühn will introduce you to the basic concepts that lie behind the notion of learning. What is known as learning in our context is optimisation. This includes a variety of approaches of which Stefan will introduce a few.

If you bring your laptop, you will be able to follow the live implementation. The material will be uploaded to https://github.com/tknuth/csmls before the meetup.

The session will be organised as follows:

• short introduction - what and why? (~30 min)
• in-depth: how do optimisation methods work? (~45 min)
• implement one! guided implementation in R and Python (~1 hour)
