I originally titled this meetup "How to Compute Anything," as a play on Douglas Hubbard's book "How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of Intangibles in Business." I'm interested in meeting game changers (including analysts, scientists, engineers, mathematicians) who want to understand, instrument, and change the world.

I want to go beyond vanity metrics, to measure and impact real things I really care about. I think computers can make that easier, by crawling data, collecting human judgments, and closing the loop.

Everyone, from people who spend their workday in Excel, to hardcore computer scientists and statisticians, are welcome.

Presentations on personal projects or stuff you're learning are welcome and appreciated. Research, not-for-profit, and business presentations and sponsors are welcome if your organization explicitly and reflectively measures and influences "intangibles" in a closed loop (which can involve humans and human judgment, because reality is messy).

So, let's meet up and exchange ideas, argue for optimal leverage points, synthesize cares and concerns, and start building stuff. Finally, we all care, but we also all have lives: Let's orient towards systems, leverage, and timeboxing vs heroics.
