John Gibbons ~ Humanism in Unitarian Universalism

Note: we have changed the date of this event from the first Wednesday to the second Wednesday to avoid a conflict with the Concord Town Meeting. We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone.

What Religion is This? Musings of a Lifelong Humanist and UU

"Raised in a fundamentalist humanist church and now serving an eclectic church of atheists, theists, agnostics, Jews/Christians/Buddhists and who-knows-who-else under its big tent, I'll ponder matters of clarity and contamination."

John Gibbons is the Senior Minister of the First Parish in Bedford, a Unitarian Universalist congregation. He is very involved in Bedford and metropolitan Boston, a participant in interfaith roundtables, chaplain to the Bedford Minutemen, a founding member of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, the Tuckerman Coalition, and the Interfaith Alliance. He also participates actively in the life of the Unitarian Universalist Association, is past president of the UU Partner Church Council, former board chair of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, and is current chair of UUSC's Ministerial Leadership Network.  First Parish Bedford was recognized as a "breakthrough congregation" in 2012 by the UUA.

The meeting will start at 7:00 with socializing and a few announcements. The program will start at 7:15, after which we will have open discussion with the presenter followed by more socializing. At 9:00 we usually have an open steering committee meeting which anyone is invited to attend.

I'm sorry. I have to celebrate a good friend's birthday so I won't be able to attend. I really wish I could as I would be very interested in this topic.

Note: we are tentatively changing the date of this event from the first Wednesday to the second Wednesday to avoid a conflict with the Concord Town Meeting. Rev. Gibbons is out of the country right now but he will confirm this date as soon as he returns. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone.

My friend and I plan to come to the December 4 meeting - first time. I use a small scooter. Is the meeting room accessible?
