First Wednesday Dialog - Film Screening of "Last Call"
Details
“Last Call” Screening on May 4, 2016, 7pm, in Concord MA (please note the prompt 7pm start time)
You are invited! To a screening of “Last Call.” In the early 1970’s, a team of scientists from MIT created the first computer model to analyze the interaction between exponential growth and finite natural resources on planet Earth. Published as Limits to Growth, the work was promptly vilified throughout the 80’s and 90’s, primarily by economists and business interests.
In the 2000’s, independent researchers confirmed that data trends from 1970-2010 have been following the Standard Run (business-as-usual) model scenario from Limits to Growth. The film Last Call tells us the story of Limits to Growth, and invites us to consider: What happens next?
Prior to the film screening, our guest Dr. Kim Kastens will provide background on the development and testing of the Limits to Growth model.” Dr. Kastens is a Special Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.

General Information
Our First Wednesday Dialog series brings in outside speakers to share interesting topics related to Humanism -- kind of like Ted Talk. We socialize and enjoy refreshments until about 7:15, at which point the speakers presents for as long as they choose, usually until 8:00 or so. At this point we pass the mic around and have a group discussion about the topic. When the discussion wraps up, we continue with more refreshments and socializing until around 9:00 when all attendees are welcome to join our open steering committee meeting.
We take donations at the door to cover the cost of the meeting ($5 is suggested). Half of the donations (after we pay the rent) are given as an honorarium to the speaker. All regular attendees are encouraged to bring refreshments to share.
Note that we have a large mailing list outside of Meetup.com so the RSVP numbers are generally much lower than the actual attendance.
