Instructables build night with $150 Shapeways prize ... https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/connected-community-hackerspace/37Muh32pV0g

Visitors and newcomers are very welcome, please see http://hackmelbourne.org for more details. However please note this is very much a hands-on workshop, so there won't usually be any presentations - it is very much an informal get-together to learn, brainstorm, troubleshoot and talk about 3D printing.

Short walk from Glenferrie train station. Car parking at Hawthorn town hall.

The main goal is to learn about and experiment with 3D printing. If you have a 3D printer, then you can bring it along and get help from many of our experienced members (or just show it off). If you've not got a 3D printer, you're still welcome to attend, find out what all the fuss is about and/or print out an object.

We don't just experiment with 3D printing, but anything related to 3D design and manufacture. There are members with experience in scanning objects into 3D models as well as designing 3D objects in various CAD/SCAD/CAM applications. There is a Lathe on premises, a Laser Cutter (not working at the moment), other (general) tools, plus the space itself has two 3D printers that can be used by members (to be shared).

For details on what 3D printing is, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printing

Please note: The space officially opens at 6pm, however many people arrive sometime after this, usually before 7pm.
