Overview: This is the second in the series of Hike and Wine events where we do some hiking and then visit a vineyard. This time we will hike People's State Forest in Barkhamstad and then visit Connecticut Valley Winery in New Hartford, CT.
Hike Description: This is a circuit hike starting at the parking area near the Stone Museum http://www.psfnaturemuseum.org/directions at 106 East River Rd. We will traverse the Robert Ross, Jessie Gerard, Charles Pack and Agnes Bowen trails.
Winery Description: Connecticut Valley Winery is about 10 miles away at 1480 Litchfield Turnpike, New Hartford 860-489-9463. It's close to Rt. 8 which is the way many of us will probably drive. Here's the link to their website: http://www.ctvalleywinery.com/Export7.htm
Level: Moderate, the hike will take about 4 hours
Distance: 7 miles (apx)
Meetup Location: parking lot of the Stone Museum on Greenwoods Road, Barkhamsted, CT
Parking: at the trailhead
Notes: The day will likely be warm and humid, dress appropriately. Bring plenty of water (at least two bottles). Bugs are common this time of year so apply insect repellent and bring extra in your pack. You should always bring high energy snacks on longer hikes. Hiking footwear is HIGHLY recommended as there are sections that require difficult ascents and descents over loose dirt/rock and slippery terrain there may be muddy areas as well. It is not appropriate to bring pets on this hike.
Cancellation: Rain/wet conditions or extreme heat cancels meetup.

You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
