Hike Peoples State Forest & Visit Ct Valley Winery

Overview: This is the second in the series of Hike and Wine events where we do some hiking and then visit a vineyard. This time we will hike People's State Forest in Barkhamstad  and then visit Connecticut Valley Winery in New Hartford, CT.

Hike Description: This is a circuit hike starting at the parking area near the Stone Museum http://www.psfnaturemuseum.org/directions at 106 East River Rd. We will traverse the Robert Ross, Jessie Gerard, Charles Pack and Agnes Bowen trails.

Winery Description: Connecticut Valley Winery is about 10 miles away at 1480 Litchfield Turnpike, New Hartford[masked]-9463. It's close to Rt. 8 which is the way many of us will probably drive. Here's the link to their website: http://www.ctvalleywinery.com/Export7.htm

Level: Moderate, the hike will take about 4 hours

Distance: 7 miles (apx)

Meetup Location: parking lot of the Stone Museum on Greenwoods Road, Barkhamsted, CT

Parking: at the trailhead

Notes: The day will likely be warm and humid, dress appropriately. Bring plenty of water (at least two bottles). Bugs are common this time of year so apply insect repellent and bring extra in your pack. You should always bring high energy snacks on longer hikes. Hiking footwear is HIGHLY recommended as there are sections that require difficult ascents and descents over loose dirt/rock and slippery terrain there may be muddy areas as well. It is not appropriate to bring pets on this hike.

Cancellation: Rain/wet conditions or extreme heat cancels meetup.

Liability Waiver: You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back. You agree when you sign up for this group or any of the events that you have read and understand the following: If you join us for a hike (or any other event), please understand that you are responsible for your own preparedness and well-being and will hold no one else liable in case of injury or mishap.
