Developing the ExploringData Package

One of the major uses of R is in exploratory data analysis. For this critical use of R Ron is developing a package called ExploringData that he presented at UseR! 2012. In this talk Ron will give a more detailed presentation of the Lighting Talk he gave at UseR! as well as discuss the development of the package since UseR! 2012.

Ron Pearson is a Senior Statistician in the Personal Lines R&D organization at Travelers in Hartford, CT.  He holds a bachelor's degree in physics, and MSEE and PhD degrees from the M.I.T. Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.  Before joining Travelers in 2008, Ron held research positions with a variety of industrial and academic organizations, including the DuPont Company, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH, Zuerich), the Tampere University of Technology in Tampere, Finland, and the medical school of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.  Ron has published four books, most recently Exploring Data in Engineering, the Sciences, and Medicine (Oxford University Press, 2011), and he maintains the exploratory data analysis blog which is accessible through the R bloggers site.

I enjoyed the presentation very much. When asked Ron opened up the editor and dove right into the code.

Good fun, concise and to the point; nice to see familiar ideas but with innovative and useful twists!

I enjoyed it, but since I gave the talk, I can't give an unbiased view.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
