: Kenosha Pass Colorado Trail
off Hwy 285
Fairplay, CO 80440
Kenosha Pass and the Colorado Trail that runs through there is one of the prettiest places to experience golden aspens in the fall. While I can't predict exactly when the peak of fall color will be on the pass this year, I'll take a chance and say very late September to early October, based on what I saw up there the first week of September. It all depends on rainfall, temperatures and other conditions. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope this will be a good day to experience the beauty of fall in the Colorado mountains.
The south side of Kenosha Pass is my preference, with aspens, pine, grassy meadows and a pleasant hike that overlooks South Park at the start. The elevation of this trail is about 10,000 ft.
We'll hike in silence to enjoy the surroundings, smells and sounds of the trees rustling in the breeze. There's no particular theme to this hike other than experiencing fall colors in the mountains.DIRECTIONS:
From Jct C-470 and US 285 go south toward Fairplay for approximately 47 miles. You will reach the trailhead at Kenosha Pass (approximately 7 miles southwest of Grant). Park on the left (east) side of Hwy 285. Look for the signs indicating the Colorado Trail. I will be there in either my VW dark blue Golf or my dark red Toyota FJ Cruiser. I will hopefully bring an orange bicycle flag so you can spot me easily.CARPOOLING:
Is encouraged. Kenosha Pass is approximately 1.5 hours from Westminster/Arvada or from downtown Denver. Please contact me if you live near Westminster and I can pick you up.NO DOGS,
I'm hoping there will be plenty of parking left at 9 am on a Saturday, but you never know, particularly if this is peak color weekend. This is why I encourage carpooling. To post a message about carpooling, just post it in the comments section below this MeetUp.DURATION:
Let's keep this hike to 3 hours total.DIFFICULTY:
Easy to moderate, some elevation gain, but this hike is situated at 10,000 elevation, so be aware of your limitations at altitude.SUGGESTED DONATION:
I am suggesting a donation of $1 per hiker to offset MeetUp's monthly organizer fees and gas.
For last minute questions or to contact me, call or text my cellphone at[masked]-7230. This hike is weather permitting. I will cancel due to snow or icy conditions on roads.
