A few of us who attend church together wanted a series of conversations on topics of broad interest to us, our friends and neighbors. We wanted a chance to explore the difficulty of faith in our culture. Many in our community are interested in living a "Christian" way of life but also value the opportunity to explore our questions and doubts. We tend to think that for most New Yorkers, (non)religion is a fluid reality.  There is often doubt in the midst of our faith, and faith in the midst of our doubt. That fluidity seems worth our attention for at least a conversation or two.

New York is full of different people with different stories. This group is a community for persons who want to learn more about their own journey -- either toward God or away from God. We'll do this by discussing some recent writing on atheism, agnosticism, spirituality and belief. And we'll do this by telling our own stories and listening to the stories of others.

The goal of our conversation is to provide a safe and interesting place to talk about matters of (dis)belief, and to help us all articulate where we're headed. Another purpose is to increase our sympathies with others whose (non)religious paths differ from our own.

The group is designed for anyone curious about articulating their own attraction to God or rejection of God, or even anger or indifference about religious matters. It will work best if the conversation involves atheists, agnostics, those loosely spiritual, and those firmly committed to a specific religious tradition. So if you find yourself anywhere on that chart, and are interested in learning more about yourself and others, please join us.
