Cooking Students, Unite!

I started a MeetUp group in Lafayette not too long ago and just today found this group ... needing an organizer... and, well, perhaps we can become one. Let's see how things go.

Let's meet this Friday!

Please join me/my group... for a nut butter-making party. I know, it's a different way to spend a Friday evening, but, what the heck. Let's get together, meet, greet, have some fun. I'll post the event on this calendar soon. Meanwhile, see the event details on my calendar, of which I just posted and hoping for 20 or so people to attend.

You'll see plenty of events on my calendar ... both free and for-profit. Some of them are my own events, other MeetUp events and events in the community. Like Tuesday for example... we'll have a MeetUp in Emerville, at Beverly Rubik's office, 7:30pm. She's giving a free presentation showing videos and photographs on how supplements affect the body on a cellular level. Beforehand I'm offering a dinner at my home in Lafayette.

Hi all -

I haven't really come up with a replacement for me as organizer of Cooking Class Lovers. So I'm going to tell the Meetup computer now that I'm quitting, with no replacement, and the Meetup computer will put the group up for grabs. First-come, first-served.

The new organizer, if there is one, may very well be commercially-oriented. In other words, future e-mail you receive from this group might be from someone hoping to make money from the group. That's OK -- there isn't anything wrong with wanting to make a living -- but I know that that format isn't what you signed up for when you joined this group. So I would be a little cautious with future events that come from this group.

I'm sorry it didn't work out better with me.

In the meantime... I'd recommend doing a Meetup search simply on the word "Cooking". There are a bunch of Bay-Area "cooking party" meetups that'll pop up. Cooking parties are simply social get-together-and-cook-and-eat occasions, in somebody's house and kitchen. You of course share cooking ideas and skills. There's no formal teaching or curriculum, but on the other hand there's no cost, you learn things, and it's fun too.

Love taking cooking classes? Want to talk about the good ones? Want someone to go with? Sign up here.

We have a plethora, an abundance, a cornucopia of good (well, and not-so-good) cooking classes available all over the Bay Area. Sometimes I think I'd like to "taste" every one of them. Most of the classes are one-time affairs and so, alas, you never see your classmates again. It would be fun to have familiar faces on the outings.

There's another reason for this group: there you are, back home in your kitchen a couple days later, and you'd like to try to replicate what you (theoretically) learned in class. Nothing like being able to "do homework" with / talk with / commiserate with someone else who was actually there.

So let's get together and light some burners.

My own events will probably be Oakland-centered, but I will nudge and help people to sponsor outings around the whole Bay. Write me if you've got a class idea.

PS - This group is free, but the classes themselves require $$ (and sometimes $$$$.)
