UPDATE:
The event will take place in Founders House (notice the address is Njalsgade on Islands Brygge).
For lunch we will have traditional Danish smørrebrød.

Virk is also releasing a new dataset for everyone to play around with. It's historic CVR data which allows you to do things like make a map of where companies move or the change in number of employees, etc, etc.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

It's a new year and time for a new node.js hackathon.

From the guys who keep crime low, the water running, and bicycle lanes wide comes... open data!

Together with Virk.dk (Erhvervsstyrelsen) we will host a hackathon with the focus of open governmental data.

For a long time we as developers wanted more open public data. Now we actually got it.

The government has more data (and keeps providing more and more) than they know what to do with. This is where we come in. On virk.dk alone there is more than 175 data sets available and it's time we started looking into this.

These are some real world examples of open data already being used:

• Geodatastyrelsen uses their own data to visualize Denmark in Minecraft

• Boliga combines their own data with public information about properties (ejendomsoplysninger)

• e-conomic uses cvr data to help users send invoices

But there is also data that could:

• Help you find the closest public bathroom

• Visualize which kind of companies are the most common in Denmark over time

• Whether or not pizzarias in your local area has a good/bad smiley rating

If you want to get a headstart check out the datasets on virk.dk (http://datahub.virk.dk/data/search).

Join us for a fun data hackathon on Saturday January 10th from 11am.
There will be people from Virk to answer questions about the datasets and listen to anybody who wants to talk open data.

For any newcomers there will also be node school.
