"When Laurence van der Post one night
in the Kalihari Desert told the Bushmen
He couldn’t hear the stars
They didn’t believe him…"
--David Wagoner
Is it possible that the wild others have stories and messages they would like to speak to and through us? Are we missing the singing of the stars, the stories of the moon, the poems of the flowers and the rivers? Does the Muse reside in these places and is she waiting for us to listen more deeply? Is she perhaps speaking to us in our dreams?
In this series we will actively court the Muse, the one who supports and inspires our creative expression. We will call the Muse to speak and guide us as we engage in conversations with wild beings of nature and the dreamworlds. The Muse may appear to us in many guises and we will invite her forth through ceremony, sound and movement. We will submit ourselves to her guidance and express freely what we discover through poetry, story, council, and expressive arts.
"The people…believed everything was alive, that we were surrounded by the faces and lovings of gods. The world...was a dense soup of love, creation all around us, full and intelligent. Even the shadows light threw down had meaning, had stories and depth. They fell across the land, and they were filled with whatever had walked there, animal or man, and with the birds that flew above." --Linda Hogan
