The Cowtown Computer Congress (CCCKC) was formed in 2008 to create a shared space for local technology enthusiasts to meet, collaborate on group projects, share tools and to support Kansas City's technology community. Kansas City has a rich and diverse technology community, however unlike some major metropolitan areas such as Austin, Texas or the Bay Area there was little structure or leadership. This lack of organization has perpetuated a false perception that Kansas City and the midwest are places for those interested in technology to avoid relocating to, or to leave for the coasts as soon as possible.

Meetings

We currently meet every Thusday in our new shared space. Meetings start at 7pm and are open to all those interested. If your interested in seeing what we're all about, come on a Thursday to see all the current projects.

Structure

A strong community of user groups is a positive characteristic of any technology community. User groups often struggle to maintain membership, promote events and find places to meet. The Cowtown Computer Congress serves as an umbrella organization which can assist in promotion of events and projects and provide a dedicated location to work on projects and hold meetings.

This strong commitment to the development and support of user groups is exhibited in our management structure, with each affiliate organization having a seat on the board of directors which gives them a voice in how the space is maintained and utilized.

Shared Ideals

All members of the Cowtown Computer Congress share the ideals of openness, nondiscrimination, free speech, the sharing of ideas, and unfettered exploration of technology's potential. All those who share in these ideals are invited to become involved, no matter where they are located geographically or their individual background.

We believe that knowledge should be free and accessible, and therefore share and publish what we produce to the community free of charge. Classes and workshops are open to the public, but we may ask for a small fee to help cover our rent, utilities and other expenses.

Our dues are currently 30$ per month and can be paid via Paypal or direct to the group. As a 501.3(c) this is our way to provide quality services to our members and maintain our presence in the maker community.
