Another great project found by Adelle! This one sends dolls to children in South Africa. I sure wasn’t raised as a spoiled child, but I always had a doll! This organization makes sure these kids do too. Here is a blurb from their website ( http://www.uthandoproject.org/ ) about why they supplies dolls to these kids:

KwaZulu Natal (KZN) is home to one quarter of South Africa’s children. Two in every three of them live in poverty and 1.5 million are younger than six. The HIV and AIDS pandemic affects everyone, and the ravages of the pandemic increase the vulnerability of all children. Children need the loving care of at least one adult for optimal growth and development. When one in five children has already lost one or both parents to the AIDS, the care-giving capacity of families is stretched and at times overwhelmed. While nutritious food, clean water, shelter and education are essential for a child’s wellbeing, so is play.

Let’s meet up to make some dolls and send comfort Chicago Style!

I will provide the fabric for the doll bodies (and hopefully have stitched up before the meet up), I will have some paint for faces, and a variety of fabric swatches for outfits. Adelle has agreed to bring batting and yarn for hair. We will stuff them, put on hair, paint on faces and make an outfit or two for each doll.

If you would like to bring items to dress our dolls, buttons, ribbon and other goodies that would be great. When you RSVP, let us know what you are bringing. Please check out their website for more details.
