CreateInTO Gathering v12.0

As a lead up to FITC and as a follow-up to the past year of showcasing creative technologies at CreateInTO we're having a discussion you won't want to miss.

One of the most common questions we receive from people is, "how are creative coding and creative technology being applied commercially?" The rough translation of this for many CreateInTO members is, "I make my living building websites, I'd like to do something else, but I don't see where the opportunities are. If I learn Processing or openFrameworks or Arduino, how can I make money with that knowledge?"

We'll kick off the night with a look at some of the work Dan Zen's been doing at Sheridan to address this very issue. The rest of the night will be filled out by a panel with the following people:

Denis Lirette - Globacore

Patrick Schroen - JWT Canada

Christopher Lewis - SplitElement

Dré Labre - Rethink

Rob Butterwick - Saatchi & Saatchi Canada

Discussion to be moderated by Simon Conlin

Bring your questions for these fine people.

Also, bring an empty hand for holding your beverage of choice as we'll once again be giving out some free drinks courtesy of our wicked sponsors Vitamin T!

There are also a pair of FITC Toronto tickets up for grabs.

Unfortunately there is not - though I wish there was too.

Neat - that's been one of my arguments for our new proposed program in Advanced Interfaces at Sheridan - I have a cool site prepared for it - if you want me to show that. We are considering partnering with our visual merchandising program at Sheridan for more of a commercial work with creative coding. Where applicable, I am pushing Flash. It has unbeatable (proven and efficient) asset control, hooks up easily enough to all inputs, handles relevant outputs such as apps and projections. Perhaps independent logical thinking can still be applied to these types of projects as opposed to the somewhat zombish anti-Flash movement. We creators should use the tools we want to use.

Dan, this sounds like a great way to kick off the night. Think you can get there for 7:30?

I can - see you then and there.
