Let's work on a project together > step 1

Hi guys!

I think it became clear from our last meetup that this group is full of creative people with a wide range of expertise. Another thing was evident: most of us would be more than happy to participate in a common project.

But which kind of project? It shouldn't be only interactive, not only visual, not an app or a game, but everything at the same time!

My proposal is that we prepare something big for the next Oktoberfest. This will give us some time to work on the project, will provide public in abundance, will give us visibility, motivation and maybe we could convince one of the main breweries to cover the costs. We may even get some tables free for the Oktoberfest!

So who is up for this? Nothing is clear now, but I hope we will get some great ideas after the meetup.

Think, post your ideas in the comments, and come ready to discuss!

It was my first time. After the meeting I wasn't shure if I want to come again. The result was very inconclusive, the pillars of the project not coherent. None of the propositions knocks me out of my socks. I regret, my/David's(+?'s) idea (fruit machine/Wies'n=brain/Bavarian sentences) wasn't even mentioned! It is a rough but realistic idea, with many defineable variables, low cost, with a potentially huge (anarchistic) impact, as well as many fields of necessary knowledge, hence COOPERATION. I thought that is what creative coding is about. For those who don't know it: please google for BLINKING LIGHTS, CCC Berlin, Haus des Lehrers. It would be in that mood. Give the people something and let THEM do it.

You can post it here. I think all group members are allowed to do it, but tell me if you have problems

Indeed, I agree with Javier on that one. Besides, I wanted to add that the next time, we should structure the brainstorm sessions a bit more, and cut the presentations to the same amount of time for everybody. That forces to precision in the description.

But personally, I enjoyed it much - even if I think indeed that we are still lacking the easy-to-do low-cost big-mayhem idea.

Is there anybody that knows the Rasperry Pi? Iam trying to install processing on it but for that I need Java on it. I am already trying to do that for two days. I will bring my pie maybe somebody knows ...

Depends if you have the soft float or the hard float version of raspbian. Java works on the former, not on the latter. Check the downloads section on the raspbian website. Have you tried processing.js?

      April 16, 2013

    • Andreas K.

Hey Phillip I got the wheezy version its the first one on the download page. I already read about this problem with the soft version. I will try to install processing.js now. What I have not managed is to install Java. Do you maybe have a minute for a coffe so I can show you?

Ok, now we have an forum entry for each idea:
    http://www.meetup.com/Creative-Coding/messages/boards/

If you think one idea is missing or should be reconsidered, you are free to create a new post for it. But please, if the idea has some relation with one of the existing ones, please just comment on the post for that idea. I don't want to spam the other group members with hundreds of new messages. Let's make this grow!!

Thanks for the nice evening at our office...

Recap of the top topics. A total of 69 points could be used for voting. We have pretty nice ideas, were we can build on. I tried to restore it, but it can be that I get some ideas wrong. Anyway... Here they are. Think about it and think it up for next time...

    April 16, 2013

    • Javier Graciá C.

Thank you again for offering your offices! And for compiling the ideas! I will create a separate forum entry for each of them. There we can discuss the pros and cons, and find who can actually implement the ideas and make them real. It was a great night!

Oktoberfest is great. We should start with a brainstorming next time and figure out what can be a great idea. Starting to do something the meetup after. OK?

    is a wonderful idea!
I really think we should do it!
yes! web platform + app + google (open maps?)
    just a spontaneous idea ...
imagine the app gives us the position data of the device in the wiesn.
each device that has it installed creates a "drawing" a digital graffiti.
every day then, with all the data, we have a created work together, a co-creation, which can be printed, displayed on a screen, 3D printed, translating into sounds, generate a movie to download from the web ...

each device can choose a color, line thickness, a tone, I do not know .... but always anonymity;)

      Cool ideas!!

      March 29, 2013

  • Caro M.

really great ideas! I'm just thinking..what are the activities that people enjoy and do most.Something that would users interested in the data and add more of that fun factor Javier had in his kinetic game.
.---for the tracking- how about.. track how many times a glass was raised for a toast (angestoßen).
--- For the map- could we also add the hight, or something that could mark all the crazy rides.
---Can we join up with a game fair stand-( ... the shooting seems to be very popular) and have online users via app or web participate in a game - this will require some robotics. But I think having online users participate live in Oktoberfest will bring forward marketing.
---People also take pride on how many beers they manage to drink, any ideas on that?
I have a full on day the 16th will see if I can make it.

    March 28, 2013

    • Javier Graciá C.

Great ideas too, Caro! I hope you can make it the 16th. But this is just step1 in the process, we will have more opportunities to join and define the project :)
About the rides, reading the accelerometer data from the phones will probably give interesting information.

    Hey Javier, hi guys,

I missed our last meetup, but that's definitely a good initiative, to really start doing something! Plus the Oktoberfest theme- it sounds like a perfect premise :-)

I had something in mind a couple of years ago about doing something like a Google Street View for pedestrian areas. Than I also saw a interesting realization done in Zürich ( http://www.360langstrasse.sf.tv/page/ ). -not that difficult to implement...

What about creating something similar for the Theresienwiese just before Oktoberfest starts. A web site/ app where Tourists could check out the area before coming over, virtually get inside the beer tents, taste the atmosphere, get to hear some sounds, read about the breweries' history, register to win stuff sponsored by Paulaner, Trachten Moser etc.. Kind of a promotion site for the Wiesn.

That project could include many fields (photography, development, design, marketing etc.) Would be glad to hear your feedback and other suggestions! See you

    1 · March 27, 2013

    • Javier Graciá C.

Sounds good Alex! I guess the most complicated thing will be to have all the pics and media ready before the Oktoberfest actually starts.

      March 27, 2013

    • Alex

Yes, that would be the short time gap before the Oktoberfest starts, after everything is build on the Wiesn...that's why I thought, this could be prototyped with some other areas or events too- Frühlingsfest, or Tollwood. If we can gather media during this years event, than we would have a great basis for 2014. But lets see what other ideas we got! I'm also open for everything else - especially if we can possibly build a small business out of it!

      March 28, 2013
