Painting Workshop: Exploring Negative Space

In this workshop we will focus on deepening our sensibility and use of negative space within a painting's composition. Through negative space we can allow a work to breathe or to highlight or bring out a desired form. We will approach creating negative space through a number of techniques including paint, collage, and the use of patterns.

**Required Materials:

• One 30x40 canvas

• Charcoal, rags, and items for creating texture and collage (colored papers, scraps, phone bills, love notes, leaves, grasses, sand, etc.)

• All other painting materials provided (brushes, paints, etc.)
