No one's expected to use Final Draft, as this is too expensive for most people ($250+). If you use an iPad or iPhone, Scriptly or Fade In are good mobile ones, but don't work on desktops (these two apps can be downloaded from Apple's AppStore...) Celtx is another free software available from www.celtx.com This software is excellent, though it's highly recommended if you download and install Courier 12 (below) before running this software to get the most out of it.

Free font required: After installing Rough Draft (above) or Celtx, you'll need to also download Courier 12 and install the font into your Fonts Folder. Here is the latest 2013 version of Courier 12 -- it goes by the alias of "Final Draft Heavy." Final Draft Heavy is the gold standard in Courier 12 fonts for serious screenwriting. It's free to download below. Once installed into your fonts folder, simply choose "Final Draft Heavy 12" as your preferred font in Rough Draft or Celtx.

Donation: If you cannot afford the class, please note that payment will never be enforced. If you are short of funds, you are more than welcome to freely attend forever. There is no class separation between paid member and unpaid member. Everyone will be treated equally with the same respect and mana. Everyone, including those who attend for free, will always be valued in the workshop and will have the same equal participation in the class as those who make a donation. That is my commitment to all the writers.

Obviously, if you are able to pay, a small $2 gold coin donation (or donation of $10-20) would be appreciated, but the main point I'm making is if you can't afford the class, you will not be excluded from any of the activities, ever. Nor will you be asked to pay. This is an adult class for people short on funds and time and is not (nor will it ever be) a Robert McKee "seminar."

Course content: The course is taught over three modules. Currently, we are examining screenplay craft and film history in relation to the three types of movies, the event film, the classical film and the art house film. For modules 4-6, I'd like to ask the class to determine the content for these sessions. Future classes will focus more on tailoring the course to the individual needs of the writer.

• Classes will always be every fortnight

• A three week break will occur at the end of every 6 modules so the lessons don't go stale

• Classes will not be taught during December or January, out of respect for people who get busy during Christmas and those who like to go on holiday in January.

Upcoming workshop (module #3):

1. Review the second draft of your 3 minute script.

2. Begin and brainstorm your 5 minute screenplay with David. In the coming weeks, you'll finish your 5 minute script to a polished 5th draft, and we'll submit your 5 minute screenplay to Inktip in Los Angeles (there is no cost to join Inktip).

3. Read 5 minutes of Behind Closed Doors, David's feature (art house film).

4. Look at screenplays and movie clips of: Pulp Fiction (Tarantino), House of Games & Glengarry Glen Ross (David Mamet), 2001: A Space Odyssey + A Clockwork Orange and Lost Highway (David Lynch)
