AS SEEN IN NEWSDAY!--Join the original FREE traveling dog walking club of Long Island. (5-star rating!)--Socialize and exercise with other dog owners for an on-leash, outside, hour-long dog walk on Saturday mornings mostly at 9:30. (We sometimes have an exception and will meet for special events at a different time on a different day.) Meet some new people and have fun! Why pay $$$ to do things with your own dog??? Meetups are FREE unless there is a small fee at the place we are meeting (I will post the fee)! This group is comprised of responsible dog owners and well-socialized, friendly dogs. All dogs attending the walks must be up-to-date on their vaccinations. If your dog(s) displays aggressive behavior with people or other dogs then this meetup group is not for you. Any dog that does show aggression will be asked to leave for the safety of the group.
We are currently on our "winter break," and will resume our regular walking schedule in the early spring. However, if we get a few good Saturdays during the winter there might be some "snow walks."
"I AM A CERTIFIED DOG TRAINER and I will be at all of the walks to answer any questions you might have concerning your dog. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, a Certified Shelter Dog Trainer, a Certified NAPPS Pet Sitter, a Certified Reiki II Practitioner, and certified in Pet First Aid by the Red Cross. As an experienced dog trainer, I have seen that many dogs don't get sufficient exercise, which leads to behavioral problems, which also leads to the surrender of dogs to the shelters. I guess my experience volunteering at a local shelter for a year and a half has opened my eyes and my heart. I started this group in the hopes of keeping dogs out of the shelters."--Suzanne Johnson (starpupsolutions.com)
Please note that a meetup will be cancelled if it is snowing, raining (even a drizzle), or if it is too hot (over 90) or too cold (under 32). If you are unsure, you can call 516-221-PUPS the morning of the meetup (not too early please) to verify a cancellation. I will also send out an email blast by 8 a.m. if the walk is cancelled.
I just want to say a big "thank you" to everybody! We are over 530 members! (There are even more members not registered on Meetup.) This proves to me that what I thought was true. People love their dogs, want to do more with them, and don't want to have to spend money to do things with their own dog! Thank you all for making my vision come true!
