Cycle Folsom Fall/Winter Apparel Fit Meeting - August 7th, 6:30 til 9:30pm
(Order deadline Aug. 12th; Delivery early October)
Only twice each year, members have a chance to try on apparel from Voler, ask questions, and learn about apparel options. See the event description for more details, but we'll spend the first 1/2 hour socializing, introducing Bruce Hendler of AthletiCamps, and hearing from Linda and John Elgart as they give us an overview of new items. There is usually a great question and answer session during that period that most new-comers find very helpful, so try to arrive for the 6:30 to 7:15 time frame. We won't be selling anything, and there is zero pressure to buy anything. You will be given a link to our Voler online store where you will be able to select all the items you'd like to purchase.
We'll spend a fair amount of time out in my garage, so dress cool. We all end up socializing quite a bit, so plan to stay and enjoy yourself. Water, beer and wine will be served, as well as basic snacks (pretzels, chips, nuts, etc.).
Expectations of Cycle Folsom Members
As our club grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to convey our expectations to our members. Here are a few that you are REQUIRED to follow:

  • When riding on the bike trail, ALWAYS stay to the right of the yellow line. ALWAYS—including through corners when no one is coming the other way. This is an essential cycling skill and one that we require you to observe. Furthermore, when possible, stay to the right side of the lane so that others may pass if they'd like to.
  • Ride in the shoulder or the road, except perhaps when passing or rotating in a pace line. Riding two abreast on a two lane road with a tight shoulder is dangerous and it's disrespectful to motorists and other cyclists around you.
  • Observe the right of way at stop lights and signs whenever cars, cyclists, or pedestrians are present.

These expectations relate directly to the safety and reputation of the entire group. If our ride leaders or senior members request that you make adjustments to what you're doing, please do it.
8-Week "Gruppetto Graduate Series"

As a recent Gruppetto Ride Co-Leader, I received several requests to offer a continuation series for those who have completed the introductory Gruppetto series. The goal is to offer a slightly more structured approach than our Peloton Intro rides, and to focus primarily on recent Gruppetto Graduates. Together with Joel Brandt and Graham Leupp, we're creating a new "8-week Gruppetto Graduate Series" on Saturdays starting August  3rd. The series will begin where the Gruppetto Series left off in terms of pace, distance, and hill climbing, and will progress to around 50 miles with about 4k feet of climbing.
These Saturday rides will give recent Gruppetto Graduates an opportunity to learn and train on a Saturday, then, if they're up to it, try out the Peloton Intro rides that typically occur on Sunday.
RSVP's will be limited. If you are currently riding with the Peloton Group, you are strongly encouraged to continue to ride with them. This is truly intended for Gruppetto Graduates. Learn more >>
Folsom Bike/Trek Special Purchase Opportunity Coming Soon
Within the next week, I will announce the official date and details for a special group purchase opportunity through Folsom Bike for Trek bicycles. This event will happen only once each year. We will be scheduling a get-together in early September (most likely the evening of Thursday, September 5th) at Folsom Bike where they'll present the 2014 models and the details of the special buy program, and offer special one-night-only discounts on certain items throughout the store. The offer will be open for a few days after the event, but then will be closed. Discounts will only be available to Cycle Folsom's Premium Members (Those who have contributed $15 annually in support of the club; If you are unsure if you are a Premium Member, send me an e-mail at Stan@CycleFolsom.com and I'll check your status).
AthletiCamps Boosting Support for Cycle Folsom
AthletiCamps is one of the premier coaching, training, testing and bike fitting facilities in the region. Owner Bruce Hendler and I are still working out some details, but we intend to establish a standing schedule for discounted group services like bike fits and fitness testing. Discounts will be made available exclusively to Cycle Folsom's Premium Members. Details will be announced at the start of our Apparel Fit Meeting on August 7th, as well as on the CycleFolsom.com web site and AthletiCamps' web site.
That's it for now!
