The New Forest

Summer's going, going... gone! Before the clocks change and we switch to winter mode rides I'll schedule some events that require that extra time of daylight.

The New Forest is a National Park that includes one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in the south-east of England. In the past, we have cycled through it either at the beginning or at the end of longer rides. On this occasion, we will spend all day meandering along its beautiful quiet lanes.

Rides are getting shorter as daylight hours cut down. Less time in our bikes will allow us to share a late lunch in the woodland together.

Start: We meet 7.45am at London Waterloo. We will board the 8.05am service to Southampton Central. This train company usually allows us all on one service. Failing that, we can split in two groups and board the 8.20am service. The ride will start promptly at 9.45am from Southampton Central.

Route:  A 62 mile ride with a total elevation of 2800ft. Elevation is gentle but expect a rolling ride. Check out the elevation graph.

PACE OF THE RIDE: The usual 15mph average pace. Please be mindful that you have no bail out options on this ride. If you chose the wrong event and are unable to follow our pace you will have to backtrack to Southampton on your own.  So please only RSVP if you feel confident about the distance and elevation. You can read more on Pace and Bail  Out policy HERE.

If you are unsure whether you will fit in with the group's pace feel free to drop me an email.

ATTENDANCE: You will have to pay for train ticket and Meet Up fares upon RSVP. Please note that you will ONLY get a refund if:

*you cancel before Wednesday 25/9 at midnight

*I cancel the event

If you cancel after Wednesday 25/9 midnight OR if you have to drop out during the event (regardless of the reason) you won't be able to get a refund.

Stops: We will stop once before lunch at about 25 miles. Toilet/mechanical stops as needed.

Lunch: There are a few pubs about 54 miles into the ride. These are lovely quaint pubs where we could stop for a drink and a quick lunch.

What to bring: Please come loaded with snacks and bring some water.  Weatherproof gear, 2 spare inner tubes,  a pump, a mobile phone and some cash. This time of the year lights will be needed for the return journey. Also,  a helmet is mandatory when you ride with us.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Cycling is fun and safe but no sporting activity is risk-free. To minimise such risk when you take part in our rides you will be expected to ride safely, wearing a helmet and abiding by the Highway Code. No red light jumping, unexpected turns or dangerous overtaking will be accepted. If we feel you are putting other group members at risk you will be asked to bail out immediately. Please note that you join us at your own risk and that by joining us on this trip you understand, accept and agree to take all the risks inherent and expected from cycling on the roads exempting myself and your fellow riders for any accident/injury you may sustain. This should be read as a clause of exemption of liability for all purposes.

Return to London: I'm hoping to catch either the 16.55 or 17.30hs service back to London. All going well, we should be back at Waterloo no later than 7pm.

Fees & Fares: £22 for your return train ticket, Meet Up and Paypal fares.

Weather: The event will go ahead with cloud or scattered showers. However, if there has been persistent rain the days before the ride or if there is a forecast of rain for the event day I will have to cancel.

One of the aims of the Cycling group is to appreciate of our natural surroundings, local towns and villages. We hope to minimise our impact by making sure that we are responsible for our litter. Please dispose of all of your litter and snack wrappers carefully".

I'd love to come for my first ride with you guys. I have read all the policy info and feel that I can meet your requirements.

Having never been before, I have one question. As I live right on Clapham Junction, can I meet you there? If it makes it to complicated, I can join you at Waterloo.

Hi David, it'd mess up with the group savers as we all need to travel together. This way we can keep prices down by half. You may as well get off at Clapham junction on the way back though.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
