What we’re about

Munich and the surrounding countryside is a great place for cycling. This group has been happily cycling around Bavaria since 2009. We are a diverse group of international expats and Bavarian natives all living in or near Munich. Join Us !

A weekly ride is normally planned for Sunday (occasionally shifted to Saturday depending upon the weather) each weekend by a dedicated group member during a season which starts mid-March and ends with the first snows of December. Rides are normally announced on Thursdays.

This is social cycling. A day tour will usually be between 45 and 60 km, during which we ride for an hour or so (around 15-20 km), then stop for a rest in a beer garden or restaurant. Then we ride on, stopping a total of two or three (or four) times. During the year we visit many corners of Munich and Bavaria, and occasionally we do multi-day tours. We try our best to ensure the rides are interesting and stay as far from busy roads as possible.

What you must always bring: A bike in good working order, warm clothes, sunglasses/suncream, water, raingear, sufficient cash, lights. Basic tools and a spare inner tube are recommended. We strongly recommend you wear a helmet.

Bike: Our rides are mostly on cycle paths, quiet roads and gravel tracks. Mountain/hybrid/trekking/touring bikes are suitable, but good cyclists can and do sometimes use road (or city) bikes. Road race tires (less than 25 mm) are unsuitable. - unless you are a Professional. The bike must have both brakes working and the gears and tires must be in good condition. You also need to know how to actually ride the bike.

E-Bikes Beware !
Our rides are likely to consume ALL of your charge. You will be left behind (with no remorse) if you can't keep up. Please - Do not over-estimate your ability or range with your E-bike.

Who can come: Anyone who wants to see the surrounding area by bicycle and meet interesting new people, and who can manage about 18 km per hour.

What else? Things don't always work out as planned. Weather, trains, and conditions can change without notice, so a resilient sense of humour is always required. Since the group is diverse, there are many different opinions, some of them might not match yours. If you are easily offended, please stay away. This is a meeting of friends organized by unpaid volunteers so you remain responsible for your own safety. Therefore, with your participation you waive your rights in cases of slight negligence as far as permitted by law.

No Show Policy: If you sign up for a ride, then mark yourself as "Not Going" within 24 hours of the ride start time, you will be administratively marked as a no-show. If you are a 3-time No-Show - administratively or otherwise - you will be banned from the group.  Rationale: It is unfair to occupy a "slot" on the Going list and then only provide 24 hours notice to those on the waiting list.
