D Lang SV: Fireside Chat with Andrei, Foundation Update, Q4 Technical Update

Details

Hi Folks, we've got a great line up for this month's event. Andrei Alexandrescu (of D lang and C++ fame: ), will be joining us via G+ to talk through a number of topics:

We'll kick off at 7pm with:

  • Networking and Food

  • Giveaway SV DevFest 2015 Ticket

  • G+ FIreside Chat with Andrei Alexandrescu

Please arrive early!

With any remaining time, Ali and I will be discussing the meetup format (an ongoing topic) to see how we can best leverage the core group we've got, and how to ensure there is a mix of both solid technical discussion, interesting presenters, a set location, sponsors to cover food/drink, and some hands on opportunities to get your hands dirty with D and the D community. To this end, I've set up a github repo to start tracking some of the salient D community issues (technical, ease-of-use, and marketing) that are still out there. Rather than letting things fester in the wild and come up on the dlang forums (where some % of the community spends its time), or at the D-Conf (where it seems to be a good place to air grievances), I thought it might make sense to track things through like issues. See: https://github.com/truedat101/dlang-sv-community/issues

My hope is that we can come up with a model to put local regional meetups around the world to use in supporting the things that aren't necessarily going to be handled in the context of the technical forums, and perhaps are better served to be tracked over their lifetime. I don't see this as a replacement for the forums, or the wiki (I think the technical process is solid). But now that the Foundation is up and running, it makes sense to start looking beyond the nuts and bolts technical issues.

I'd also like to do some hacking on code, so we've discussed having an additional meetup during the month to meet at a cafe as a sort of study group/hack session.

Ali and I are also looking to rally some more Dlang Meetup participation. I will remind folks in the group that this an unprecedented privilege to be able to have close access to the language core team. And we'd also like to encourage folks who are "curious" about D, or who have abandoned D to come by, as we'd like to discuss challenges to adoption.

Food for the upcoming meetup is sponsored by Razortooth Communications, LLC (my Mobile and Embedded systems consulting agency).
