The DC Atheist Meetup Group has joined the Washington DC Area Coalition of Reason (DC CoR). The national United Coalition of Reason has organized twenty such groups so far. The strategy is to raise the visibility of local groups of those who do not believe in God by conducting campaigns using billboards and bus ads. We are likely to see this in our local area sometime in November if the national group can buy the desired advertizing. As part of this effort the local groups of a given area coalition find projects and efforts that can be conducted in common.

The first DC CoR service project will be an afternoon volunteer effort at the Capital Area Food Bank's DC warehouse.

Time 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

We will be packing and sorting food items or assisting in other tasks. All of these tasks are considered light/medium labor and typically involves standing up for up to three hours and lifting up to 35 pounds. This activity will most likely take place in CAFB's warehouse, so please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Because CAFB hosts many volunteers throughout the week, it cannot guarantee to which project we will be assigned.

There are only 22 slots available for all participating DC CoR groups. Please RSVP yes only if you are certain that you will be coming. If you wish to come but there is even a slight chance you will not make it please RSVP maybe. Those who RSVP maybe are quite likely to be able to attend but we will need significant cooridination as we get closer to the date. In either case I will need your email address for the event organizer. After you RSVP please send a message with your email address to Don Wharton. These will be forwarded to Mary Bellamy who is the event coordinator.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and anyone less than 18 years old must bring a signed waiver with them. Everyone must wear closed-toe shoes.
