All things considered, I see stagnation as the root cause of all illness. Becoming stuck in the mind and body can lead to feelings of heaviness, cloudiness, hopelessness, despair, fear and even paralysis. Movement, especially in the form of dance, can assist with the release of stuck or blocked energy. Fresh air, new energy, new ideas and new life can become available to you once you free these blocks. Dance is freeing. Dance is freedom...and freedom is your birthright!
Join me for my weekly Soul Freedom Dance class where you will learn to quiet the mind, move your body and let your soul fly free! For the first 30 minutes of class you will learn and practice effective meditation techniques for stress relief and becoming more relaxed, centered and aware. We then move on to a thorough warm up of our bodies and explore movement though African and African Diaspora dance with a solid foundation of technique and FUN & FUNKY choreography. We will dance to live percussion and the soulful sounds of the African continent, Cuba, Brazil, Jamaica, American Soul Classics, House, R&B, Neosoul, etc.
No experience necessary. All level meditators and dancers are welcome. Dress comfortably in clothing that won't hinder your breathing or movement. Bring your own blanket, mat, cushions or stool for meditation.
