9:00 - 9:30 am: Welcome and Video Introduction - What Is BIRT? New to BIRT? This session is for you!! BIRT is an open source software project that provides the BIRT technology to create data visualizations and reports that can be embedded into rich client and web applications, especially those based on Java and Java EE. BIRT is a top-level software project within the Eclipse Foundation, an independent not-for-profit consortium of software industry vendors and an open source community.

9:30 - 10:15 am: BIRT Basics and Architecture This session introduces BIRT, the technology, and looks at how you can leverage BIRT to quickly create data-driven reports, web pages, and compelling information visualizations using its visual drag-and-drop design environment. This session includes a demo and tour of the BIRT design environment, BIRT architecture and provides a great orientation to the BIRT project and technology and how it might benefit your applications.

10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Experience the future of Data Visualization and Analytics in Enterprises with BIRT The need for data visualization and analytics in enterprise is growing exponentially. Extracting value from Big Data, driving higher user engagement, delivering information on mobile devices or upgrading older information applications all require compelling data visualizations and analytics. In this live, demo-oriented session, we dive into the use cases, technology requirements and look at how the different flavors of open source and commercial BIRT can be used to implement these use case. By comparing and contrasting the scope of requirements that can be addressed by open source and commercial BIRT, attendees will gain a better understanding of the different options they have to address the organization’s needs for faster deployments, richer visualizations and flexibility to answer ad-hoc questions.

1:30 - 3:00 pm: Live, Free BIRT Training: Building BIRT Applications Sponsored by Actuate University, this afternoon class, based on Actuate's iHub 3 product , will use the examples covered in earlier sessions and will provide attendees, hands-on experience on BIRT and iHub. This course will cover functions such as data definition, layout creation strategies, reuse libraries and other useful techniques to quickly become successful developing and sharing BIRT reports.
